SkyJournal
The journal you write at the eyepiece.
Observation logbook for amateur astronomers. No account, offline.
Why SkyJournal exists
Cloudy Nights users have requested an Android observing journal for over a decade. Planet apps are not observation journals. Paper logbooks get wet. SkyJournal is the structured digital logbook for visual astronomers.
What SkyJournal does
- Session logging: date, equipment, Bortle scale, sky conditions
- Per-object observations in 15 seconds or less
- Bundled Messier and Caldwell catalogue — no internet needed
- Equipment inventory: telescopes, eyepieces, filters
- Observing sites with light-pollution class
- Red-light display mode for dark-sky use
- Export sessions to CSV or JSON
- Optional Google Drive backup (free, your own Drive)

Privacy and local storage
SkyJournal stores all observing data locally. No account needed. No tracking. Optional Drive sync uses your own Google Drive only.
Optional Google services
- + Google Drive (optional): backup and restore your observing log via your own Drive account
- + Maps (optional): search for observing sites by location — manual coordinate entry always available
All Google services are optional. SkyJournal works completely without them.
